Basking in the Sun

By Pete

Well, it’s another cold, dreary day in Northeast Ohio … and I’m not there! That’s right, I’m currently in sunny southern California.

As I sit in the warm sun on the balcony of my room at the Marriott – Anaheim, I couldn’t help but brag a little here.

I’m here, of course, for work and not vacation. Tomorrow and Friday, the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) is holding it’s first-ever Going Green conference and I’m here to cover it for Pest Management Professional magazine.

It’s been a long day so far (I woke up at 4 a.m. and barely made it to the airport in time for my 6 a.m. flight). Back-t0-back three hour flights are exhausting, and it’s kind of weird to think it’s only a little after 2 p.m. here (which means, I actually woke up at 1 a.m. West Coast time!).

With no conference to attend tonight, I’m trying my best to take it easy and rest up so the jet lag doesn’t mess with me too much. I’m going to go work out at the fitness center in a couple of hours (I’ve got 3 miles to do today).

I’m hoping a nice work out will energize me instead of making me more tired before I go to dinner tonight at 7 p.m. (which is 10 p.m. back in Ohio … a time when I’m starting to get tired on a normal day).

I’m not sure where I’m going tonight, but I’m sure it’ll be good. I’m having dinner with Isotech’s Mike Masterson, the Verminator himself. I first got to know Mike this past summer when I interviewed him for our July cover story.

Since then, we’ve spoken several times on the phone and through e-mail (and text messages), and we became better friends when I finally met him in person this past October at NPMA PestWorld. That really is the great thing about working in the pest management industry — the people are great!

I always enjoy catching up with pest management professionals (PMPs) — after all, they’re readers of our magazine and the reason I even have a job. Mike is, like most of the PMPs I’ve met, a great guy.

Sure, being away from home as often as I am kinda sucks. But, it has its perks too, such as a few days in sunny So. Cal. in January and a nice dinner with a friend.

Yeah, I’m jealous. I was in West Lafayette and you’re in SoCal. How is this fair?

  2. fandorka Says:

I hasten to add that there’s nothing wrong with West Lafayette, except for the lack of sunshine.
